Installing gentoo on section 8c of the handbook, tells me to set the root password, however, the passwd command isn't found. So what package do I need to emerge to get it?

Code:

obelix@home ~ $ equery belongs /bin/passwd
[ Searching for file(s) /bin/passwd in *... ]
sys-apps/shadow-4.0.7-r1 (/bin/passwd)

qpkg is no more in the current ~x86 gentoolkit.

Wow things fast in "Gentoo land". Time to learn a new tool I guess.

Been there for a while.

I'm sure it has. Once I learned how to use qpkg a while back, though, I didn't need to do qpkg -h very often.

I have the same problem, passwd is not found (on 2005.0 release, section 8.c of the installation manual). The qpkg -f ... doesn't work. Shall I emerge it ? Is it a more serious problem in my install ?
Thanks
AF

I believe the new tool is called equery.

Check it out:

smitten@home smitten $ equery belongs /bin/passwd
[ Searching for file(s) /bin/passwd in *... ]
sys-apps/shadow-4.0.5-r3 (/bin/passwd)
smitten@home smitten $

smitten@home smitten $ equery files gentoolkit
[ Searching for packages matching gentoolkit... ]
app-portage/gentoolkit-0.2.0
* Contents of app-portage/gentoolkit-0.2.0:
/usr
/usr/bin
/usr/bin/equery
/usr/bin/etcat
/usr/bin/euse
/usr/bin/glsa-check
/usr/bin/qpkg
/usr/bin/revdep-rebuild
...

In the 2004.3 (in stage 3) this problem didn't exist.
Question 1: Do you think think problem linked to stage 2 (more than the fact it's 2005.0)?
Anyway, I tried "equery belongs /bin/passwd" but it didn't work (equery is not known).
Question 2: I guess I have to emerge it ?
Thanks

In this thread there were explainations about the way to find the package which contains passwd.
So, for dummies, like me, do only:
emerge shadow
the passwd command will be installed
