Strange problem. I can only surf to some websites. There does not seem to be a trend which ones work and which do not. It is definately a nameserver issue because I can ping the ip address but not the name. But why only some? I have changed the nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf to those supplied to me by my ISP but still no joy.
I run a home network with number of linux and XP machines and a linux machine as the gateway.
Weird. Help will be appreciated.

Mmmm. Problem was what most people probably thought as they read this senseless post. Check the name severs! I am not sure I did much different, but I have name servers that seem to be working now. Funny though, they are the same ones I started out with.

Also make sure that there is nothing else in resolv.conf - do not set a search domain unless you know exactly what this means.
