Is there a way to use the setterm command during the install? I have tried the command:
setterm -powersave off -blank 0
This works on other *nix systems. I do not get an error when I type in the command but it does not seem to work. My screen still blanks out. Now it is not a big issue, just wanted to see if there was a way to get it working during the install.
Going to install Gentoo on a 3rd system later and wanted to try out the a command that will stop the screen blanks. (lazyness factor. would like to see the progress of the 3rd machine without getting up from the desk  )

I've tried basically the same when in the OS: setterm -powersave off -powerdown 0 and I didn't seem to get any errors, but it still didn't work.
Have you found any solution to this? My problem is that once the terminal blanks out it woun't respond to the keaboard, and thus it's impossible to get the system up again...

Right now I still have not found a solution. Once I have Gentoo installed the command works perfectly. While still installing in the chroot environ nope still does not work.
What kind of keyboard do you have? Is it a ps/2 or usb? Check out these threads:
