What free games should I really try? I saw portage has many games in it, but I don't know them, so tell me which ones are good. You can also tell about games not in portage if you want, I can compile them if needed...

I like to puzzle and simulations so my favorites are:
- fish-filletts
- freeciv (use ~x86)

The forums has many threads that are pointing to good linux games in portage so use the forum search function.

You can start with www.eternal-lands.com, its also in portage.

Freedroid (the rpg version) is also good, but still incomplete, so the storyline is still short. It's an rpg a la Diablo.

Uhm! That fish thinggy seems good. But *cough* it is huge 8O

Code:

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N    ] dev-lang/lua-5.0.2  +readline 185 kB
[ebuild  N    ] media-libs/sdl-mixer-1.2.5-r1  -mikmod +mpeg +oggvorbis 0 kB
[ebuild  N    ] media-libs/sdl-ttf-2.0.7  +X 0 kB
[ebuild  N    ] media-libs/sdl-image-1.2.3-r1  +gif +jpeg +png +tiff 0 kB
[ebuild  N    ] games-puzzle/fish-fillets-0.6.0  +nls 93,145 kB

I will download tonight and, with luck tomorrow I will give it a try. [/code]

If it wasn't technically illegal, I'd suggest grabbing ZSNES and a couple of SNES roms off of amule or bittorrent. Good ones are all Mario titles, both Secret of Mana games and of course Zelda (among so many others). But that's illegal, so don't

That trackballs looks cool, I'll try it maybe I'll like it... 'cause normally I don't like puzzle style games.

OpenTTD is a very addictive game!
However, you need the graphics from the commercial game. But hey, I found the commercial game (for windows) on some abandonware website and they work great!
