|
|
I've got trouble getting software mixing to work.
I'm using the 2.6.11.7 kernel with ALSA support built as modules (no OSS at all) with some crappy embedded soundcard (from lspci) "CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator" using the c46xx driver.
It works as it should without dmix, but when trying to do
aplay -D plug:dmix ding.wav
there's only silence for the duration of the soundclip in question and no error messages. Same thing happens with mplayer and xmms.
Some help would be much appreciated.

Have you looked at the HOWTO on the Gentoo-Wiki Site? _________________ All reality is the construct of the observer.

Try running alsamixer and checking to see if either your Master or PCM channels are either zero'd out or muted. I've had an issue like that with my SB Live!. _________________ Siggy siggy |

As I said, I only get muted sound when trying to use the dmix plugin. Normal play trough the PCM device functions as it should, so it's not a problem with muted channels in the mixer.
For the record, I've tried unmuting and maxing out all the channels in the mixer with no luck. |

If you mean cs46xx then there is an alternate driver for that chip that has hardware acceleration. I use it for my Hercules GameSurround Fortissimo II and it works great.
Code: | Device Drivers -->
Sound -->
Advance Linux Sound Architecture -->
PCI Devices -->
<M> Cirrus Logic (Sound Fusion) CS4280/CS461x/CS462x/CS463x
[*] Cirrus Logic (Sound Fusion) New DSP support (EXPERIMENTAL) |

Thank you!
I've been ripping my hair out over this since I got this computer over a year ago. Now it works perfectly playing multiple streams at once, doesn't even have to use dmix. Could be my imagination, but it also seems like audio quality increased. Big thanks again! |

Something I forgot to mention is that the ALSA driver works better as a module. When I had it in the kernel I got alot of skips and pops, but that problem doesn't exist when it's a module. |
