I know, i know...Numerous threads before, use the search function Luke, ATI clearly states its 2D only etc.
HOWEVER!
When I orginaly switched to linux on my Shuttle ZEN (which has ati 9100 igp) I installed Fedora Core 2. Now guess what?
I am a proffesional 3D person and not a gamer so first thing I installed was some open source and some licensed apps that i have that run under linux. Of course Mesa GL did a piss poor job of anything but taxing my CPU to 100% becouse ATI wasnt in the helpfull mood. I messed abit with my system but I didnt do any extravaganza. If i remeber correctly only thing i did was opengl-update ati or something like that.
Now you can say what you please but i got 3D acceleration working! How did I know that? Well i run one of opensource proggies (Wings3D) and compared its performance with WindowsXp that I been very familiar with (at about 75000 polies its at the peak). Also i watched carefully my cpu usage when thumbling scene which is 90% opengl. 5-10% usage at peak poly count! I am 100% sure 3D was working.
Now...How to get same performance with Gentoo? |

Try the ati howto on the gentoo homepage and let us know if it works and the PCI id of your chip! |

Well...I can get ati drivers working no problem. But the problem is the non-existent opengl accelaration. I think when i got it to work under Fedora Core 2 it was somhow thinking it was ATI 9200 AGP card or something similar. Current ATI drivers clearly state that ATI 9100 IGP is only 2D accelerated under linux. Other thing that crossed my mind is that maybe X11 that Fedora Core 2 was using wasnt using Ati suplied drivers but rather X11 ones. |

when you say non-existent acceleration... Is it that you can run opengl programs but slowly? Or do they just not work at all? I also have a Shuttle Zen. With the fglrx driver installed running anything opengl comletely locks the machine. With nothing to be done but a hard reset. _________________ what am i supposed to write here? |

A this time X.org's native radeon driver with DRI does not currently support hardware 3-D acceleration for IGP chips and Radeon chips above the 9200/9250 (RV280). If you want hardware-accelerated 3D on the 9100IGP, you'll have ot use ATi's proprietary drivers from what I understand. _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor

What is so wrong with proprietary drivers? Shit, I use them and I get 14,500 glx gears with my gpu. It's not that bad a deal, open source is good, but take what you can get. If you can't get open source, then don't... ![Sad :(](images/smiles/icon_sad.gif) _________________ CPU: 3800+ X2 (2.5Ghz)

repeat after me "I am an idiot" now go throw out your computer before you get hurt. Did you read this thread at all? Whats wrong is the closed source drivers appear to not support 3D for his card under gentoo. He thinks they did on FC. So we are trying to find out what driver combination to use, to obtain 3D acceleration. |

First off, that was a general question. I realize that there was no working drivers for that card, I use to have an IGP. Anyway, I was asking a generalized question, now, repeat after me... _________________ CPU: 3800+ X2 (2.5Ghz)
