I just load up the GIMP and use its colour selection tool. |

I'd say Elicit... but then again... I use e17 so I doubt you'd want to emerge half of its libraries (marked -*) just to get a colour picker.
Hmmm... just checked Elicit, and it seems it's not that bad on the dependency side (5 packs marked ~x86).

Try x11-misc/gcolor2. A nice and simple colour picker. Needs gtk+ though, so I don't know if that's a plus or minus for you. |
