I've installed gentoo several times in the past, but this one has me going crazy... I think it's something with the change to a 2.6 kernel and the udev. First off I use /dev/hda2 as a universal mount at / in the filesystem. My grub.conf file is pretty straight forward:
timeout 30
default 0
splashimage=(hd0,1)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title Gentoo Linux
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/kernel-2.6.11-gentoo-r3 root=/dev/ram0 real_root=/dev/hda2 init=/linuxrc ramdisk_size=8192 vga=0x317 splash=verbose
initrd /boot/kernel-2.6.11-gentoo-r3
And when I boot I just get:
RAMDISK: Couldn't find a valid ram disk image starting at 0.
I used genkernel --udev all as suggested in the manual, I've also tried just genkernel all to see if it made a difference, nope...
Any ideas? I'd really prefer to use a genkernel as I want everything loadable at some point... |

Try appending udev to the kernel line in grub.conf _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

Sorry I didn't say, I did do that, I tried it with udev in the line, I tried it with devfs in the line (recompiling for devfs), I tried everything I could think of... As a temporary solution I have maunally configured a linux kernel and that works as expected, but something is severly wrong with the documentation instructions on the current universal disc for a dual cpu machine (what I'm running this on).
Any other ideas? |
