iptables

I am building my own internet router with gentoo and I need some help with the iptables. I haven't worked with it before, so I don't know anything about it.
I just follwed step by step the commands I found at a Howto at gentoo-wiki (The homeserver howto). There were no explanations at all. The situation is the following: The Router connects to the internet with pppoe (eth0) and other PCs are connected to eth1 via HUB. How can i get this to run?

this might help to get you started with iptables.
