|
|
Hello. I'm trying to do a stage 1 install of Gentoo on my laptop, which has 512 MB RAM. When I get to the step where I untar the portage snapshot, I run out of device space.
I believe the tempfs file system will allocate up to 1/2 the available RAM. Is it simply that the snapshot and the initial gentoo files are too big for my amount of RAM? How can I work around this? Can I force tempfs to take more RAM? How much should I need?
Thanks for any help. _________________ "The problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so sure of themselves while wiser people are so full of doubt."

Hmm did you actually partition and mount the real filesystem, and cd into it (/mnt/gentoo)?
The stage and portage tarballs should be extracted to the real (disk) filesystem, not the livecd tmpfs. _________________ Please put [SOLVED] in your topic if you are a moron. |

Ugh, you're right. I didn't mount the HD partition and so the untarred files were going into the tempfs. Thanks. _________________ "The problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so sure of themselves while wiser people are so full of doubt."

hehehe, classic, I like that...
Think yourself lucky you didn't have 2 gig of ram, otherwise you might have wasted time downloading & compiling only to lose it on a reboot |
