I follow this article https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-319349.html to build system.
It makes no error. Then I emerge xorg-x11, gnome-2.10, xine-lib-1.0, xmms, xine-ui and so on.
but xine-ui has problem. When I run it in terminal, I can see splash picture. But it crashs.
the output is :
This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.3.
(c) 2000-2004 The xine Team.
Segmentation fault
I use alsa-driver-1.0.8, xorg-x11-6.8.2-r1.
totem with gsteamer work good.
How to fix this problem? Thanks!

Try using an older or newer version of xinelib.

Emerge the ~x86 version. Those should work.

You are using Gnome so I think you prefer to have a GTK interface.
Try USE="~x86" emerge gxine. If xine than works add media-video/gxine ~x86 to your package.keywords in /etc/portage.
You can also try this with the libs (xine-lib) and the normal player (xine-ui).

This problem is probably caused by alsa.
Read the bug reports and browse the forums.
I had the same problem: it was solved by downgrading alsa
to 1.0.7.
Good luck.

So, did that work? Because I tried to downgrage to alsa 1.0.7 and I still get the Segmentation fault!
And what bug reports do you mean?

hi Der pate,
Log into www.gentoo.org and click "bugs" on top of the page.
Type alsa in the search and you will get a whole list of alsa bugs.

But how do you even know, ALSA's the problem in the first place? And what packages did you downgrade? Because I noticed there's no longer a direct possibility to downgrade the alsa-headers.

I even tried to emerge at least xine-lib without alsa-support, still no change.
Any other ideas?

Did you try the tips about the "xineplug_vo_out_opengl.so"
with :

I had a problem with xine. It would run, but as soon as I tried to play anything, it would crash. There is a utility included with xine to help. Run in console xine-check. Now when I did it, it said everything was good. Then I unchecked the 'alsa_hw_mixer' option in the set-up (with xine running hit the wrench icon on the left side of the panel, then go to the audio tab). Putting my audio and video drivers to 'auto' and unchecking that option, it runs fine for now.

Tried it, but since I don't really have a problem during running it didn't effect much. That's the point anyhow: I'm not even able to run xine --help without a Segmentation fault
