I have a Inspiron 5150 with a Nvidia 5200 GO video card. I just installed 2005.0 and the first thing I am trying to setup is X. I went to Nvidia's website and downloaded the nvidia drivers and ran them. Now when I run X -config xorg.conf.new I get the following in my log file.

When i run X -config /root/xorg.conf.new I get this.

(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usual configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

......

***EDIT***
Dont know if this helps any but when I type "modprobe nvidia" I get the following error.

FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.11-gentoo-r6/kernel/dirvers/video/nvidia.ko): Invalid module format

Ive never had any luck getting nvidia cards to work in X and this is just solidifying my point... Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Im pretty new to linux and get lost quickly.

Thanks everyone

downgrade your "glibc" to the version < glibc-2.3.5 and everything will be fine.

I am not going to downgrade my glibc after spending so much time getting my toolchain updated to glibc 3.4.3. Surely there is another answer to this problem? I am getting the same error:
Code:
FATAL: Module nvidia not found.
NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!
NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting **
Screens found, but none have a usable configuration.

I am running the same configuration on my laptop with the nvidia-kernel-1.0.7174 and it works great.
glx-gears is at: 3125 FPS on the laptop, just can't get it working on the desktop.
