Hi :)

Due to **cking problems with my HPT370 onboard controller (system freezes when i try to read files from my Maxtor 80GB) i tried to compile and install development-sources (kernel 2.5.59-mm7). Everything went fine (after installing modules-init-tools ;)) but when devfsd starts i've a lot of errors saying that my modules.devfs has invalid entries (i've never edited it) : it says "modprobe : WARNING : /etc/modules.devfs line xx : ignoring invalid line starting by 'probeall'" (or something very similar). In fact it doesn't seem to affect the system since boot process goes on but i'd like to know if anyone has ever had this "problem" ?

PS : as far as i've tested, i don't want to switch back to a 2.4 kernel because it seems that everything is OK now :D

I have had the same errors. I think that it started with one of the 2.5.59 kernels, I don't remember getting these with 2.5.58. Andrew Morton added some devfs patches on 2.5.59 kernels, maybe those are the reason. Or maybe it is version 0.9.9 of module-init-tools.

BTW, I get these errors on /var/log regularly after bootup as well.

Ok thanks for your answer :) I'll try 2.5.58 and see if these errors go off :)

I reverted back to the modules-init-tools 0.9.7 and no problems afterwards!

Well, for me it doesn't work : it crashes the kernel at boot time :( But i've reverted to a 2.4 kernel because in fact, the problem doesn't seem to be due to my maxtor (i tried with a western digital with the same results :'().

Anyway, thanks for the answers :)

When I emerged both devfs and module-init-tools I had ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" enabled by accident. When I used ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" and re-emerged them, everything worked fine!
