|
|
I just did my first PPC install, and it was rather painless (besides the length of time it took to compile/bootstrap on a 1ghz with 256 RAM!) but I have one problem...
Yaboot boots to this NICE high res console.. I chose linux. Then it brings me to the boot screen, also nice and high res/pretty. I hit enter and...
BAM
I'm back to the ugly normal font... (but I do still have tux). Do I have to install the bootsplash/framebuffer console to get this? Is that why ? (Maybe I forgot something in my kernel?). Ideally for now I'd like the high res console with the boot logo (tux.)
Help is appreciated. Thanks guys. _________________

there is a sticky about bootsplash on ppc:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-192895.html
opn page 4:
Quote: | Anyhow, today I did a fresh install and I got gensplash working!
Kernel: 2.6.10-gentoo-r4Momo (haha, local version)
Video card: Radeon 7500
Just follow the instructions for gensplash , configure your kernel as suggested at the beggining of this thread, and in yaboot.conf add:
Code:
append="video=radeonfb:1024x768-8 splash=silent theme:emergence
Note: Do not add the "initrd" line... It will end up in kernel panic
Of course:
Code:
#ybin -v
#rc-update add splash default

Yeah, but I wasn't sure if what I'm wanting was considered "bootsplash" or not..
Since my yaboot looks high res, I was thinking I could get the console by default.. I don't know. I don't usually use framebuffer or bootsplash _________________

Ok since no one seems to know...
And then use setfont.. I think it was:
Man setfont if my above is wrong.. I figured it out myself
Also edit /etc/rc.conf, there's a CONSOLEFONT= section, put the font there to have it loaded at boot time... _________________
