I have a always-on desktop at home that I have decided to turn into a streaming server so that I can listen to my mp3's at work without having to purchase an device such as ipod (that's for another discussion). The desktop is running winxp (to be turned into gentoo soon), and my laptop is gentoo. Can anyone recommend a good streaming server (perhaps a server/player combo) that:
1) reads file name with unicode character (I tried snackamp in winxp, but it has some hardtime picking up CJK-character filename on NTFS)
2) preferably easy to configure
3) preferably open source
4) has some security feature (I ripped those from CD I purchaed. I am no RIAA, but I don't want to get sued either).

Thanks...

Icecast & mpd / muse should work... However, it's not a really "simple" setup- maybe somebody has got a better idea.

I'm looking for something similar but that will (optionally, perhaps) cast the same playlist to multiple machines.

There was a post at slashdot a while ago about music streaming solution, which I also posted for some solutions.
