I heard something about some tools they'd help me with automountig several USB Devices.
I use an ASUS MyPAL Organizer, an extern Harddrive with several partitions, a Creative MP3 Player and a digital camera.

which tool do you recommend for my use ?
so i can plug them in and out and they will mount and unmount automatically.

regards

HAL + Ivman is the best combination to use for this. There are a lot of posts about this already, actually, but maybe not specifically related to the devices you mentioned.

Ivman can be configured to not only launch mount your device but also run programs or scripts when you plug it in (e.g. autosync a PDA or whatever). HAL will also dynamically create mounting points for you and dynamically modify /etc/fstab so that anything you plug in gets mounted by Ivman and shows up in /media as a mounted file system. It's actually fairly neat, and very similar to what windows does (only probably with much less overhead :)).

HAL and Ivman are independant of window manager, but you can compile Gnome with HAL support to give it a nice interface with HAL.

By the way, HAL and Ivman are still 0.5 releases, so they won't work for everything and might require a bit of effort to set up. But the end result is a really nice system for managing your PC peripherals.
