Hi, i am faily new to gentoo yet after days of grueling compiling i have finally got it up with gnome.
Because the desktop went off the screen slightly, i changed the resolution, but this didnt look good so i clicked "return to previous resolution", after doing so, the screen goes all funny with colours everywhere. My screen is a LCD display. The possiblility may be that i have accidently set the wrong refresh rate. I havnt set desktop enviroment to start automatically so i can get into the normal command enviroment. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to reset the screen settings to the default values or provide any other assistance.
Thanks for your help,

JAM

Can you change to virtual consoles with ctrl+alt+F1, ctrl+alt+F2, etc....?

If not you can boot from a livecd and do:

1.- Mount your root (/) partition under /mnt/linux
2.- cd /mnt/linux
3.- chroot /mnt/linux /bin/bash
4.- rc-update del xdm
5.- exit
6.- umount --all && reboot

Now you should boot into normal console mode. ;)
