Never saw that error message. You didn't compile the nvidia support into the kernel, right? Can you give the output of your lsmod?

No, I haven't compiled the kernel with nvidia support :P

Code:

root@BServer jpnag # lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by
nvidia               4812020  0
root@BServer jpnag #

I'm using gentoo-sources-2.6.13-r3 and the graphics card is a TNT2 pro. I also keeped the inter_module_fix.patch needed to make the TNT2 pro to work with kernel 2.6.11/12.

AGP disabled btw

Problem solved! Seems that

Code:
media-video/nvidia-glx-1.0.7174-r5
media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.7174

work pretty well with RIVA TNT2 so I'm using this drivers atm!

PS - My kernel version is gentoo-sources 2.6.13-r3

so tnt2 should run with early 7xxx drivers but not newer ones.
MX4000 should run with newest (75) nvidia drivers.

what confuses me is that with newer drivers geforce2nonMX (the faster ones) do not run but geforce2MX do. but its not THAT confusing because the MX ones do support 2 monitors at once. with geforce2nonMX if you want to use composite for TV your regular pc-display blanks. so MX chips are slower but newer technology...?!

I have a NVIDIA Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 420 Go] and was able to use the Nvidia 1.0-8756 driver following advice

http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Latest_Nvidia_Dapper

(see especially the "PROBLEMS SECTION" at the end).

And finally add
Code:

    Option "Twinview" "True"
    Option "MetaModes" "DFP-0: 1024x768, CRT-0: 1024x768"
    Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Clone"
    Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP, CRT"

to get twinview working in clone mode (e.g. to make presentations).

Hello,

I have a NVidia 420 Go 32mb in my Samsung X10 laptop. I can't get it to work with any of the newer nvidia drivers. So I want to use the 6111-r3, but it won't compile against my linux-2.6.16-gentoo-r7. ("free_memory" error).

Unfortunately the link to the nvidia ebuild overlay is down (that the first poster in this thread posted). Can someone help me retrieve those files? Or give advice on what to change in the kernel sources?

Thanx,

Chris
