I use a 17in LCD with a two port kvm switch. When I am at one computer, the monitor image is positioned perfect on the screen, but when I switch to the next computer, that computer's output it about 1cm offset to the right. I can use the "auto" setting on the monitor to make it go back to normal, but was wondering what causes it. The vert. and horiz. output from each computer is identical. Is it graphic card differences or something else I'm missing? _________________ "If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there." -Lewis Carroll |

It has to do with the display timings output by each machine. Are they both gentoo machines? If they are, you can look up the specs on your LCD monitor, then use a tool like this one to calculate the timings and the ModeLine to put in your Xorg.conf. (It goes under the Monitors section.)
That tool allows you to move the screen left/right/up/down by changing the timings.
BTW, I found the tool from this thread. _________________ There are 10 kinds of people: those who know binary and those who don't. |
