Like some have read in This Thread I'm beginning work on an install program for gentoo. It's not meant to be an official install program just my own little project that I'll contribute if people want to use it (if it hits v1.0 and the gentoo developers like it they are more than welcome to include it on the cds for an official gentoo installer however )
In order to lump all of the compiling together in one big set of actions that do not require any human interaction (read: no babysitting) I need to figure out a way to configure a kernel before the bootstrap has been run. I am NOT talking about compiling the kernel, just emergeing the sources and running the "make menuconfig."
Is it possible to emerge the sources and run make menuconfig before the bootstrap has been done? _________________ Shoot Pixels Not People

Yes, it's possible. I just tried it. I was worried about lxdialog being makeable, but it worked. I didn't actually download the kernel sources - just copied existing ones into a chroot - but that should be the easy part, right? _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Woohoo! Good. Thanks rac.
Yeah, if everything still works with trying to configure it without bootstrapping then emerging it shouldn't be any problem. _________________ Shoot Pixels Not People
