We must split these threads from time to time because they hurt forums performance.

So, I have succesfulle installed 2.10. And Nautilus is fast. Which is cool. Actually it is the only reason I opted to upgrade. So I am pleased. One small thing went wrong though. My bash promt all of a sudden says:

Code:
bash-2.05b$

instead of the funky green
Code:
machine user#

root's prompt is still cool, it is just mine thats not.

Any ideas?

I fixed that by creating a .bashrc file in my home directory with the following line:
Code:
source /etc/profile

Oh, if anyone ever has a similar problem as I did (which I doubt considering the amount of posts addressing my problem :)), it's fixable by adding udevstart to /etc/conf.d/local.start. For some reason the permissions for /dev/null get messed up, but udevstart fixes it.

Its a gnome terminal thing, do this.

Edit-> Current Profile

Title and Command Tab, check 'Run command as login shell'

that should fix your problem

Hello, here is my problem:
I have a laptop with a screen resolution of 1024x768, so i change my Icon-Size generally to 75% - thats looks quiet good at my desktop, an the icons in the filemanager itself are also okay, but to font is to small. this is not 75% of my standard font size, maybe this are 25% of my stanard font size for applications.

so i have actually only the option to increase the standard application-font-size (this is to big!), make the standard icons bigger (this is to big), or...or?

no idea :/

Here a sample:
Stanard Font 100%
Font Size i want 75% -> I WANT THIS IN NAUTILUS, BECAUSE MY ICONS ALSO USE 75%
REALLY USED FONT SIZE 25%

Hi again,

Like I might or might not have said, I just started using gnome. Most of the apps I use are gtk-based but there are an occasional qt app I need to run (most noticeably qcad since I can't find any gtk cad apps). I've been googling to find something similar to gtk-qt, which under kde makes gtk apps look like qt apps. Judging from what I've found, there's no such thing. So, is there any hack, any workaround to let qt apps blend in to my gnome desktop somewhat better than they do? Thanks in advance.

Edit: By the way, I probably shouldn't clutter this thread with these sort of questions, so nevermind. For a moment there I forget there were other gnome-threads... sorry

Yes it would be a great idea to have qt apps look like gtk apps. But I can't even use my menu to insert my kde apps ! Is this possible ? on ubuntu they have smeg which is a menu editor. I'll have to switch to KDE if gnome can't do such basic thing.

Bye

Hi,

I've ported smeg (well maybe ported is exagerating, bodged is probably a better word) to python-2.3 and patched gnome-menus to work with it properly.....once my web server works (it's in bits ATM) I'll post the portage overlay so you can emerge it. ETA is about 1-2 days.

Cheers,
James

Hi,

OK, maybe the web server's going to take a little longer than predicted  , but in the mean time I've installed a piddly little ftp server which you *should* be able to reach at http://17boulden.no-ip.org/smeg-0.5-gnome-menus-cvs-overlay.tar.bz2. The tarball is for your portage overlay, and contains SMEG (Simple Menu Editor for Gnome) 0.5 and a patched version gnome-menus-2.10.1. Note that this has had limited testing by a team of 1 (me) so if it explodes your menu, eats you cat or does anything nasty you have been warned!

Extract the tarball into your overlay then:
Code:

# emerge --oneshot gnome-menus
(I've just left the version number the same so that any updates in portage aren't missed.)
# emerge smeg

Then you *should* be good to go. It's pretty low on bugs from my testing, anything that looks like a bug that I haven't caused should be directed at http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=67. Note there's quite a bit of discussion in that forum so check that any problems haven't already been reported.

Cheers,
James

EDIT: Just noticed that gnome-menus-2.10.1 is currently masked, so you have to unmask it!!

EDIT: Web server's back, changed the URL

Hi,

since I have updated to Gnome 2.10 my USB drivers doesn't mount automatically when I plug any USB-thing. I have to do it manually. How can I change it to mount it automatically and have it on "My PC" icon when I plug any USB driver, as when I had Gnome 2.8?
Thanks!

what are your USE flags in /etc/make.conf ?

do you have hal and dbus
if not, checkout the Gentoo Documentation about Gnome, it explains

Something else to check are the messages you get when you plug in your usb device, using the dmesg command

Cheers,

Patrick

I updated my gnome awhile ago (after is got marked ~x86). Everything works like a charm, except for that a few icons are missing. gnome-main-menu.png, for example, or panel-force-quit.png. I already re-installed gnome-panel, but that didn't help.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't see the corresponding thread before...

Thanks in advance,
Drag0n

Thats ok. There is no dbus USE flag. Dbus gets pulled in with hal as they work together so if you have hal, then you are set.

Has anyone had problems with the Gnome trash applet? It seems to not reflect the true state of the trash -- it appears full even after I empty the trash, and sometimes appears empty when there are files in the trash.
