hi there,
i'm currently trying to get gentoo working under vmware 5. everything went fine until first reboot,
there stops the boots process with following error msg:
Quote: | block device /dev/sda3 is not a valid root device... |
i entered sda3 as ext3 in fstab as needed.
grub boots the kernel with doscsi and buslogic is loaded.
plz help to get my beloved gentoo working _________________ ..:: xDAMNx ::.. |

Does VM-Ware 5 force you to use scsi device or can it be setup to use an IDE device instead? |

I experienced the same "Can't find /dev/sda3" kernel panic when I upgraded from version 4.5 to 5.0 of VMWare Workstation. Enabling the MPT Fusion support in the kernel (CONFIG_FUSION=y) was the only change needed to resolve the problem. _________________ Cheers!
