Hi, I am using Rhythmbox-0.8.8-r1 with ALSA. However, when I try to play an MP3, it crashes. When I run it in the terminal I just get the word "killed". It seems to work OK for OGG files, though. I tried remerging it several times, and even going back to an older version (0.8.5) with no luck. I've heard this can have to do with the ID3 tags on the MP3s, and have emerged Easytag. As I have a bit over 600 MP3s, how can I tell it to batch correct the tags? Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

I have the exact problem (not sure if its the same version of Rhythmbox though). If I try to play a mp3, it crashes. I don't think its the tags as I was playing music fine on Rhythmbox 3 days ago before i updated my system. I haven't changed tags on my music since ...

why not give amarok a try? i used to be a rhythmbox lover, but amarok has finally matured enough to take its place for me. ive encountered many issues such as idtags and file permissions with rhythmbox, but amarok was happy to take all my files and play them. the features are amazing.

Just as an update with Rhythmbox: I tried using it with Xine instead of Gstreamer, but still have the same problem.

Give jamboree a try. About the same as rhythmbox but alot more stable.

OK, a couple things. I tried Jamboree, but for some reason it would crash when I tried to import anything. I also tried emerging Amarok, but it failed on emerging I think KDE-lib. I downloaded the source for Rhythmbox, and compiled it to use Xine. Now everything works; I guess it was an Ebuild issue.

Thanks for the input.
