I have been trying to install gentoo on my alphastation 200. The 1.4rc1-test4 livecd booted up quite well. However, my problem is the raid controller. It seems that in 1.4rc1-test4 there is no driver included for mylex dac960.
Having well read older messages, it seems driver should be found on the second newest livecd, 2004.2? Problem is just that only 1.4rc1-test4 boots up, while other livecds for alpha lock after trying to boot the kernel... (for example, gentoo-alpha-2004.2-20040730 stops at line "aboot: starting kernel /boot/gentoo ..."
Now, if I have understood correctly, there is no other way than making my own livecd with a new kernel. But... how am I supposed to do that? Being only a gentoo newbie, the future doesn't seem too bright for my alpha. So, any help from new alpha livecds to directions how I should do one would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance |

I've had no trouble booting the KZPAC or KZPSC raid controllers on alpha. Note that non-DEC branded cards are running a different series of firmware and will not work! The Mylex DAC960 card you are using MUST be branded as a KZPAC or KZPSC card by DEC. Also, do yourself a favor and upgrade the firmware to the latest version v2.70 and you should be OK. _________________ Compaq XP1000 Alpha EV67 667Mhz w/ 2GB ECC
