I love Gentoo a ton, and at work one of my friends insists we use FreeBSD on the servers. One of the main arguments he sites (and for our purposes it is very valid) is that he can setup a fully fledged bsd box within 20 minutes easily, whereas with Gentoo it can take forever... Is there any way to install a fully fledged Gentoo system in less than 30 minutes, or even close to it? |

Hmmm... 90min on a PII/350 with 128MB ram (stage3 GRP install). The install included xorg, firefox and some other apps I can't remember now. My guess is: yes, it can be done in 30min. It can even be done faster if you have a Stage4 CD (basically a backup of a functioning system).
But to answer the _real_ question here... I'd go for FreeBSD on the servers _________________ If someone solves a problem for you say thanks... and put [SOLVED] in the title! |
