I dont know if this is the correct forum for this post, but i guess it fits under server troubles. Anyway I finally got a solid server built and now im going crazy with installations and configurations. so i want to run cvsd on the machine yet im at a loss for solid documentation setting up the server side deamon. i found a decent publication here http://www.taursys.com/howto/cvs/ discussing a cvs configuration on a red hat system. i thought eghh why not and started to follow the instructions. ive got the cvsroot established on my system, but then i hit the part of the doc where a line must be added to /etc/services . i decided to back off here because gentoo has the rc-update mechanism, and if i remember correctly the file is intended to always be modified via the rc-update mechanism and not manually on this distro.
rc-update show does not produce a cvsd entry, and so im at a loss. the gentoo developer doc entitled cvs tutorial http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/cvs-tutorial.xml does not cover the server set up. i really want some gentoo specific cvs server config info. thanks in advance

Any particular reason you aren't using subversion? |

probably because i havent heard of it until your mention just now. i use it instead as long as there is enough good documentation to get me running on both server and client side laying around somewhere. |

just checked out the free book on subversion @
http://svnbook.red-bean.com/
now that's what i'm talking about.
it really seems cvs is behind the curve on the documentation, seriously everyone starts their docs with a
'of course the server will already be set up' attitude
im coding tonight, but tommorow when i get the chance its subversion time.
ill tell you what i think after i try it out
