When doing a stage 1 on 3, I run into a gcc-config error that states

gcc-config error: Could not run/locate "i386-pc-linux-gnu-g++"

i've tried
Code:
ln -s /usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/3.4.3-20050110/i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc /usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/3.4.3-20050110/i386-pc-linux-gnu-gcc
to fix, but to no avail, any suggestions?

Have you changed your CHOST afterwards?

When do you have this error?

Post the filename of your stage-file and the output of 'emerge info' please.

its a little hard to give exact advice, because you haven't posted all of the information that's required to give you an exact answer.

if you're getting an error where GCC is looking for a 386 version of the compiler, you've probably made a configuration error by either installing from the wrong tarball or in choosing the wrong CHOST for your tarball/cpu.

for me to be able to answer your question, you need to post all of the information that is requested here. only after doing that will we have enough information to provide an accurate assessment of your situation.

just in case you didn't know it, there's an offical support thread for the Stage 1/3 installation method. here's the link:

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-314985.html

please feel free to post future support requests there, where its easy for me to find them! :wink:

why even do a stage 1on3 anymore... just use the jackass tarball. see Bob P's post. links and all..

edit**
also if you're building for i686 use THAT tarball. the x86 tarball is generic for everything below i686 . OLD pentiums and athlons.
