|
|
I finally got udev to work well enough to see my scsi CD as /dev/cdrom and my DVD writre as /dev/dvd
however I cant seem to play an audio CD using xine if it is in the DVD drive.
Rather than looking at the medium in the drive it seems to dumbly expect everything in /dev/dvd to automatically be a film.
The CD will play in the CD drive so the medium OK, and the errors about plugins clearly show it is expecting a film.
How cant I get it to accept an audio CD in the DVD drive?
TIA , Gentree. _________________ Linux, because I'd rather own a free OS than steal one that's not worth paying for.

I have a NEC 3520a dev/hdc, and a Samsung cd/dvd player on dev/hdd and have set these up in xine settings > media and it works fine - playing Shostakovich right now on the NEC!

Btw I'm using the latest versions of xine-lib and xine-ui with vanilla-sources-2.6.12-rc4 _________________ "I am not bound to please thee with my answers" W.S. |

How do you get to those settings?
If I run xine , bring up the config dlg and so to media I see no mention of /dev anything.
added prob is my DVD writer is assigned /dev/dvd and refuses to look for anything but a film in that drive.

Do you have the xine-ui?
Or you could check .xine/config
mvh
at the moment I'm running it as root btw.. _________________ "I am not bound to please thee with my answers" W.S. |

I did emerge xine-ui but there is no xine-ui command so I guess that is what I get when I type xine.
I looked in ~/.xine for a config or something before but there is not one. I assumed it was elsewhere.
Is that what you meant.
btw what do you see when you are refering to xine>settings above?

Thats right, the xine gui comes up when typing xine, then up comes both a smallish video screen and one of those player gui's that looks like a spaceship.. right clicking on the latter brings up a menu with settings et al.
I have the following flags
Code: | [ebuild R ] media-libs/xine-lib-1.0.1-r1 +X +aac +aalib +alsa (-altivec) +arts -cle266 -debug +directfb +dvd -dxr3 +esd -fbcon +ffmpeg +flac -gnome -i8x0 +ipv6 -libcaca -mng +nls -nvidia +opengl +oss +png -samba +sdl -speex +theora -v4l -vcd -vidix +vorbis -win32codecs -xinerama +xv -xvmc 0 kB
| and
Code: | [ebuild R ] media-video/xine-ui-0.99.3-r1 +X +aalib +curl -libcaca -lirc +ncurses +nls +readline 2 kB

According to man xine, "~/.xine/config is the Main config file" - its hellish long otherwise I'ld paste a copy here. Btw I saw your other post and it didn't look as tho you have /dev/hdc but /dev/sr0 or 1 instead.
mvh
Just tried gxine as well.. everythings in one gui, much more straightforward to set up.. _________________ "I am not bound to please thee with my answers" W.S. |

OK thanks ,
I now have ~/.xine/config and I have found a setting for default audio that I can set to /dev/dvd
Looks a bit limitted if I have to reconfig by hand every time I want to put a cd in one drive or the other but maybe ther is a way set one of those spare buttons if I dig around a bit.
Did not get any sound output either but I can look into that . At least the disc was going round !!
I'll look again later, I have to go and fill up van with sheep shit now . It'll give my eyes a rest.
Thanks again.
