|
|
Hi,
I wish to clarify this question:
I know that there are several important USE Flags, like mmx, mmx2, sse, sse2, 3dnow, 3dnowex (If you additional important ones please tell me.
1) How do I determine which of them are supported? (cat /proc/cpuinfo)
2) How to check if I need to add 3dnow, 3dnowex
3) How about mtrr use flag (and kernel setting)? Do I have to add it too as use flag?
Lets say my cpu outputs:
Code: | flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr sse |
Does it mean mmx2, sse2, 3dnow, 3dnowex are not supported and therefore I should NOT place them in the USE flag list?
Please clarify as much as you think so that onece ond for all I get it.
Thank you,
Spiro |

Yes, it does mean exactly this. Answers your question 2, too. As for mtrr, I do not know either, what this is, I just enabled it in the kernel as well as in my USE flags. Does not seem to hurt, though |

I want to know what are USE Flags, where can i find more information on it. I am new to Linux, therefore I am not familiar with many of the things. |

useflages you may find interesting:
nptl -- for glibc. the native posix threading library should be an improvement over linuxthreads.
pic -- for better use in prelinking.
is this a p3? in anycase, my amd64 gives:
flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmovpat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 pni syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt lm 3dnowext 3dnow lahf_lm
obviosuly i don't have the revision E as there is no sse3 suport on my cpu. _________________ HW problems. It's a VIA thing. |
