OK, I bit the bullet and purchased a Asus K8N-E skt 754 nForce3 brd w/ Sempron3100 cpu, 512 DDR400 Ram, 120G HD, Radeon 9250.
On the software side have got the 2004.3 and 2005.0 universal-install and pkg CDs. Only very s-l-o-w dialup is available(~26k !) so installing over the web is not a practical option.
Anybody had experience setting up gentoo using similar and can give me pointers? I'm leery of using the generic install instructions that setup has to offer. Don't even know the USE flags etc, etc, etc...

Just a generic tip: You shouldn't touch the default USE flags when you do a binary install. They are compile time settings and won't change anything (apart from messing up your dependencies, probably) unless you rebuild a package they affect. |
