Hi!

I had to change my mainboard (old one: ASUS; new one: Elitegroup K7SEM with Sis-Chip)
After installing the new board the Kernel stops booting, freezing at the lines

PCI: PCI BIOS revision 2.10 entry at 0xfb3f0, last bus=1
PCI: Using configuration type 1

I tried to boot with a Knoppix-CD (which means a different kernel), and it worked fine. With the help of the Gentoo installation CD I tried different kernel configurations:
.) Getting PCI-information from the BIOS (instead of option 'ANY') made the system halt one line earlier, at 'PCI: PCI BIOS revision 2.10 entry at 0xfb3f0, last bus=1'
.) The Knoppix kernel is configured without the /proc filesystem, so I thought this could be the reason, but I was wrong (same error)

I first thought that there's an IRQ-conflict, but then Knoppix wouldn't boot too. There must be one PCI-option that makes my kernel freeze the system.

Here's my system:
Elitegroup K7SEM V1.0
AMD 900Mhz
512 MB SDRAM
PCI-slots: SB-Live! and Ovislink Ethernet Adapter

Gentoo 1.2
Kernel 2.4.18

I hope someone can help me.. I miss my Gentoo!

thanks for your help,
Stefan

hi

As the gentoo CD boots your system with the new mainboard, the issue should be related to your own kernel config.

maybe try to start a kernel config from scratch. get rid of your .config in /usr/src/linux and start with the defaults changing only the settings your REALLY know.

btw. what kernel sources do you use? that could be helpful too.

I use the gentoo-sources kernel. A friend of mine told me to try the vanilla-sources, maybe this could help too.

Thanks for the hint to start with a new .config - file!
