I just installed the new livecd and kde 3.1. I have a couple of issues.
1. I don't seem to have a startx command, however I can start kde with just kde.
2. I created a user for myself but it won't let me su into root.
If someone could just point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Frank

1) does /usr/X11R6/bin/startx exist?
2) Asked often and most recently in: Cannot SU (still on the 1st page even) _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

('')
Talk about embarrassing! Thanks for being patient.
I did do a search on 'su' but it didn't turn up anything. I didn't think about lower and upper case searching.
I do have the startx command. Once again I don't know what happened there. It has just been one of those weeks.
The 'su' (or is it 'SU') problem is solved. This happened to me once before about a year ago and I forgot about it. Is there a tool or method to manage adding a user to groups during creation?
thanks again.

As for startx, if it still isn't working, it is most likely a path issue. See if this helps: Code: | source /etc/profile && env-update | (source /etc/profile &&) may be unecessary. If that doesn't work, logging out/in should do it.

Err... Shouldn't it be the other way around? Code: | env-update && source /etc/profile |

in /etc/pam.d/su :
Code: |
# Comment this to allow any user, even those not in the 'wheel'
# group to su
#auth required /lib/security/pam_wheel.so use_uid
|
you just have to comment this line |
