I have a Compaq StorageWorks 4314r ULTRA 3 Raid Array Enclosure and am slowly gathering things together to put it to work.
I don't know a lot about this enclosure and hope somebody here does. I currently use an older MegaRaid controller with an F1 enclosure with 7 drives in raid 5, it's really stable and fast. I want more storage space and like the megaraid cards, so I'm thinking of a MegaRaid Enterprise 1600 for my next controller for this newer enclosure, however the docs I have read on it do not indicate that card works and instead has a bunch of Smart Array cards listed, but they do seem to indicate that a generic might work and as I said I like Megaraid cards so far. They also bench well as an added benefit.
So, what do you think? Have any of you used a Megaraid card with the Compaq 4314r? |

Because I received no replies and now know the answer I'll post my results so others might benefit.
Yes, the AMI Megaraid Elite 1600 works fine to control the StorageWorks 4314r enclosure. All features work as expected and it seems to be solid in performance. I like it, and best of all it's a hardware raid configuration that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg.
The device names are also standard such as /dev/sda so you don't even have to figure out what names your partitions are because they're what you expect them to be, very nice. |
