I can't edit my crontab with KCron.
When I want to save my settings in KCron, I get this error:

When I add an entry to the cron from the command line, with
and then open KCron again, the entry I just added doesn't show up.
Even more, the cron is always empty.
Which cron does KCron use and as which user does it run ?
I supposed it tries to open the cron for the user who's KDE session is running, but why isn't it showing the contents of that crontab then ?
Note: I already googled for it, but didn't found any result at all |

Have you tried running KCron as root? Also what cron proggy did you emerge? VCron, etc?
You can set KDE menu items to run as different users, FYI... go to the Menu Editor (right click on the K Menu button) & navigate down to the proggy icon.. not sure if this will help... |

No, I didn't try to run KCron as root, because I want a user to be able to modify its own cron tab without having to know the root password.
Indeed, I emerged VCron. I suppose this should be ok ?
I just modified the "shortcut" for KCron to run as root and now it appears to work.
But of course I have to provide the root password, and I don't want that because of the reason I mentioned in the first paragraph.
But hey, now it works already (as root).
I can live with it for now, but nevertheless I want to be able to run it as another user.

| Great! I don't need user crontabs, since Im the only one using the machine, and I mainly just use that to run periodic stuff that would be good for all users anyways... |

Hi all,
I had the same problem you were talking about.
The solution for me seemed to be to make sure that each user is a member of the "cron" group. Just open "kuser" and add each user to the "cron" group.
Let us know if it works for you.

The error message is related to the shadow file. People were having the same problem with Kuser. If you run "pwconv" as root, this will generate shadow passwords for you and allow you to use Kcron as a non-root user.

IMHO, this info should be put into the ebuild of the respective cron packages! Had a tough time configuring a users crontab until I spotted the possibility of adding this user to the cron-group(fcron is my preferred app.). Fixed it good!
