Hello, all. I am starting with a fresh install of Courier-IMAP on a server I've been running for a year. After configuration and starting up, I try to log in to my IMAP server via telnet, and I get this error:

It does not even allow me to enter my username or password, it just closes with that error.
I did some googling, and found this post: http://www.mail-archive.com/qmail-ldap@qmail-ldap.org/msg03300.html
But I can't figure out what this means, and how I should modify my Gentoo boot scripts (if this even pertains to me at all, that is).
I am familiar with the authdaemond -> courier_authlib change, since I had to do this on another box before. But this change still isn't helping. I have DEBUG_LOGIN=1 set with courier-authlib, but it is not helping produce any info to my syslogger... still just basic program startup and module initialization info. Courier doesn't seem to be very debug friendly, IMO. Almost no useful debug info, even after setting my syslogger to read the debug syslog level, as per: http://www.courier-mta.org/authlib/?README.authdebug.html

got it!
make sure you have in your /etc/courier-imap/imapd following lines

IMAPDSTART=Yes
MAILDIR=[i]not_empty![/i]
|
(see near EOF!)
that solved it form me!

ps: fully agree with you, courier is not "debug friendly"
