Has anyone had any success getting the infrared port on a laptop working?
I'd like to be able to control the laptop with a remote control.
I installed the irtty-sir module into the kernel but I can't find any obious device in /dev which corresponds to the infrared port.\

Ugh, IRDA usually works either as a network interface or as a serial port. It does not work as a receptor for IR remote control signals. _________________ Dmitry |

I know on my laptop, I enable it and disable it in the bios, it took me forever to even think about checking there. I felt stupid. |

Check your BIOS. Usually they come up as one of the serial ports. Mine is /dev/ttyS0.
Or do a `cat /proc/net/irda/discovery`
But yeah, very unlikely that you'll be able to control your PC using a normal IR remote, and an IRDA port. |
