I had a similar problem with diablo, it boiled down to wine did NOT want to run it in full screen. Try telling it to run in windows mode, so if that does anything for you.

heres what you need to do, or at least how i play it...

btw, i haven't got maphack working with it yet.

Firstly, download point2play, either version the full, or the lite, and install the whole diablo2 and expansion using that. Download the cracked no-cd version of d2 lod v1.10 and replace it with the default one once you run it once and do the manaual updates.

copy all the mpq files from your cds to the d2 directory

Edit the config for diablo 2 now with point2play. Make it run in desktop mode 800x600, this way when you click outside the windowed mode and its supposed to minimize, it doesn't disappear. Trust me, do it this way.

lastly under command line add
"-w -skiptobnet"
-w is for windowed mode and you can guess what the other arg does.

sorry i wrote this fast in the middle of a class...

if you need any more help post here

Ok... it runs.. but still under wine only... and there is this Battle.Net thing that keeps saying It can't identify the version of the game, even though its 1.10, and has been updated w/o a problem.

Still not working under cedega

got it working... scrub what i said..

install the latest patch

Code:

cedega /path/to/patch.exe

then if you run cedega in window mode, put it in 800x600 at least... if not then its fine..

make sure you change the windows version in your .transgaming/config to win2k. that should be it, thats all i needed to do to get mine working

and obviously, the play cd has to be mounted..

ive also noticed that in the console when it runs i get "bad stuff: aload of numbers" but still it works..., bnet and everything

so install with win2k in your setup in cedega folder?

Edit: I ran the installed version and now it complains about the Game.exe file..... what should I do?

I installed the no-cd patch earlier, and updated to 1.10 before that.... but my original files are gone.. should I just reinstall ?

I reinstalled it, and it still complains (cedega) about the Game.exe file not being found

It won't install via cedega, but I got it runs in wine, but without B-net... and you need the no-cd patch to run it v.v

i dont use nocd patch...

i instaleld it by Setup.exe on cd, did a full install.

then

download the patch from blizzards site (1.10) and ran that with cedega to install it

then

mounted play disc, set my winver to win2k then put desktop in 800x600 (wouldnt work in 640x480)

then it ran, also runs in full screen

i installed the game in wine, then got cedega and it runs fine in cedega (using nocd patch cause it complained in wine), but cedega has cd protection support, so u shouldnt need it
what do u mean it doesnt find Game.exe just goto diablo 2 folder and run cedega Game.exe

Game.exe crashes with cedega in both cases... it starts the debugger almost instantly with or without the no-cd...

Long ago I had a russian version of LoD, and it worked fine with cedega (complained about b-net but that was another problem)

that was in the days of the old WineX

I installed the game from windows. So no i cant help you.
But I looked around for a OpenGL wrapper for diablo (still have it on disk if you like)
With the NoCD crack I can play without any problems the latest patch...
But it is a bit complicated. I use the following Skript to doi it.:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
cd /path/to/Diablo_II/
mv -f Game.exe Game1.exe
mv -f Game_crack.exe Game.exe
wine "Game.exe" &
sleep 2
mv -f Game.exe Game_crack.exe
mv -f Game1.exe Game.exe
exit

maybe that helps *gg*

Cheers

Ok, so it seems we lost the point of the original post (as D2 was said to be running ..) but this is how I installed D2 and everything seems to be working great

I installed the latest wine release, and changed the config file so the version of windows it pretends to be is win98. I went into the dosdevices directory inside the .wine directory and make symlinks to the cd drive ( IE if my cdrom was to be Drive D, was the /dev/hdc device and mounted on /mnt/cdrom, I would run " cd ~/.wine/dosdevices ; ln -s /mnt/cdrom d: ; ln -s /dev/hdc d:: " to enable raw device access .. the :: for /dev/hdc is intentional.)

I then mounted the install cd and ran 'wine /path/to/setup.exe' to install D2. Once installed, I copied the mpq files off of the Play CD into the D2 directory to help speed things up. I was also able to download and run the patch to upgrade to v 1.10

Once it was installed, I went back to the wine config file and changed the version of windows emulated to win2k. I changed to the D2 directory and ran 'wine Game.exe' Setting the emulated windows version to win2k allowed the copy protection to work and it was able to read and validate my mounted play cd. I'm not using a nocd patch, so Battle.Net should be able to verify the binary as well.

The only issue I had with it was that the gnome panel kept displaying over D2 - i read somewhere that its because its not sending all the window hints needed correctly. I found a patch that seemed to work on the wine-patches list, or the other way is just to hide the panel .
