I've emerged the better part of package.mask from the default AMD64 profile... and damn. Aside from an increase in HDD usage (really?) I've noticed no instability or much else... oh, except after I lost libXext (which I can now just go emerge libXext...bahahaha) I can open firefox _________________ Gentoo HP ProBook 6540b |

Just installed 6.9.99.901 and its working so far. Cant say its any faster but nothing is broken (yet ). Need to do more testing but hopefully the finals will show some kind of speed improvements. I long for the day xorg becomes much leaner and meaner. _________________ You're not afraid of the dark are you? |

You really should try EXA if you have a radeon like me. It is really fast with xcompmgr now!
I love this new release! |

Well, thats why we all just love revdep-rebuild, does we not?
Had thwe same problem, but for me it was xorg-server that needed to be remerged..... |

I dont EVER need to be told to run a revdep-rebuild...EVER, not even jokingly...seriously... Though that was my first guess too.
Did some digging when I should have been sleeping. Good thing its not Xorg. Its eselect which left me without an opengl module set. Emerged the previous version...all is well: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109904
I should have clued in on the odd errors I saw after emerging it when trying to set my opengl module...should have headed my gut.
The new Xorg fixed the paylist display in BMP as it was broken before moving up to the new GTK+ and GNOME 2.12. Oh its so nice to have it back working. I would like to say its seems faster, but it might just be a placebo effect...either way the fixed window in BMP is reason enough to not go back...good thing it was eselect and not Xorg
NOTE: Ahh, it also fixed issue with my NVIDIA driver. No more segfault on running glxinfo...sweet. Gonna try tomorrow and see if I can get my 3D working without Xorg locking up...ohh, that would be sweet. _________________ You're not afraid of the dark are you? |

Hmm. I have not encountered those problems.
The only problem I have right now which really enoys med it that my mousebutton 2 and 3 is swapped using evdev, and I can't fix it with xmodmap... |

Has anyone had any Luck in compiling nas or openoffice 2 with xorg-server?
I have imake installed but both still fail with:

In portage the only ebuilds for xorg-x11 are 6.8.2-r4, 6.8.2-r6, and 6.8.99.15-r4
I'm looking for the 6.9RC or 7.0RC ebuilds? _________________ IRC!: #zen-sources on irc.rizon.net

6.9 (the monolthic version) isn't in portage. 7.0 is, but it's been renamed to xorg-server. You should read the first post in this thread. |

Create your own ebuild if you want 6.9. That's what I've done. Gentoo is going completely for the modular tree so there wont be any 6.9 ebuilds in portage. |

Or you can use mine.

Hi, I've emerged xorg-xserver and it is kindof working, but I am getting the following in Xorg.0.log
Code: |
dlopen: /usr/local/xorg/lib/modules/extensions/libGLcore.so: undefined symbol: __glXLastContext
|
I have reemerged xorg-xserver but nothing, and my Xorg is slooooowww....
Any ideas?
[Solved] - you MUST specify glx module before GLcore in xorg.conf, but Composite is still sloooowwww |

It appears there's now a meta-ebuild for modular Xorg in portage: http://packages.gentoo.org/ebuilds/?xorg-x11-7.0.0_rc1
Should xorg-server be unmerged before emerging this new meta-ebuild? _________________ A certified Gentoo lover!

You cant install it without uninstalling the monolithic xorg, portage simply wont let you. _________________ You're not afraid of the dark are you? |

Who said anything about the monolithic Xorg I wrote xorg-server, which is the modular.
Anyway I tried emerging the meta package without unmerging xorg-server first and it emerged without problems. Thinking about it, it's pretty obvious. A meta package is just a package, that emerges other packages. In this case xorg-server was one of them, so it wasn't re-emerged. Portage/emerge is so clever _________________ A certified Gentoo lover!

Well, the new evdev sucks.
I have removed obsolete lines from my xorg.conf and the result is that middle and right buttons are swapped.
And what is even worse - I can't remap it with xmodmap - everything is ignored.
xev reports right button as button 2 and middle button as 3 - this seems to be OK, but they work like swapped...
I am using MX1000. |

Anybody else having problems with the whiteglass cursor theme?
I use this theme at size 16. But when moving over some applications like firefox, scite, evolution, ... (gtk2 apps?) the size gets bigger.
I don't have this problem with the Industrial theme that i'm using now, but i think whiteglass is so much nicer.
I only tried the latest xorg-x11 version (6.9_pre20051111).
EDIT: sorry, wrong thread... |
