Hi :-)

I've tested lots of kernels and the result is following:

- 2.4.19-XFS works, but has problems with ATARAID and the Fritz!PCI
- 2.4.20-XFS_pre6 works fine, but has problems using both gameport and soundcard
- 2.4.20-vanilla doesnt work, missing xfs-options (/ = xfs)
- 2.5.59 simply doesnt work

Well, at now i've still the 2.4.19-XFS running, which was the first i compiled for gentoo. And it's quite okay, except those ISDN- and RAID-Problems. Thats also why I want to use an other kernel.
Because the 2.4.20-XFS works great with my Promise RAID controller, I want to use this instead. But the problem is, as mentioned above, that whenever i put both gameport and soundcard (es1361 -> SB16 PCI, no matter if kernel or module) into it, the sound doesnt work, since there is a problem with gameport_register or something like that. But even if i'm not THAT gamer, i want to use my gameport some time. (edit: if i dont check gameport support to compile, the sound seems to work... must be just a gameport problem in this version of the kernel)

Do you have any ideas to build a kernel which supports all things i have got problems with? It's quite nasty that one kernel has probs with these, the other with the other hardware *lol*

My idea was to patch the vanilla to full-support xfs, but i dont know which patches and if this is all i have to do. So... any ideas? :-)

I run XFS kernels only. And for sound i use ALSA and not oss kernel drivers.

maybe this helps

It's most certainly GNU/Linux, not Linux. Read more at

I am currently running a vanilla kernel patched with SGI's XFS support on one of my computers. The saga (including some notes on how to do this) is at
