|

I have an externel USB2 PlexWriter (PX-W4012TU) and I can't simply stick a cd in it and mount that cd. I fallowed the gentoo usb guide and when i type lsusb I get.
Code: |
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 093b:0011 Plextor Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
|
Typing dmsg I find.
Code: |
Freeing unused kernel memory: 220k freed
Vendor: PLEXTOR Model: CD-R PX-W4012A Rev: 1.05
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 00
Attached scsi generic sg0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0, type 5
usb-storage: device scan complete
|
and if i try to mount /dev/sg0 I receive the fallowing
Code: |
mount: /dev/sg0 is not a block device
|
Thank you for your help

if you use a 2.6.x kernel you don't need scsi emulation.
if you try mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom does it work ? _________________ linux: #232767 |

Ahhh, well mounting hdc only got my my internal DVD rom. I also tried all of my other hd devices (except my hard drive, hda) and none of those mounted.
Thanks for your time in advance.

Hi!
hmm, if you run dmesg after you connected your plextor via USB, does it say anything about /dev/sda. When I connect a usb stick I have to mount /dev/sda1 to access it. So try to mount /dev/sda0 or /dev/sda1 and see if it works. |

My external cd drive mounts as /dev/sr0, you might try that. Also, what USB support do you have enabled in your kernel? I had to enable a couple of things, unfortuantely I don't remember what and I'm at work so I can't look at it. But if you post the section from the make menuconfig I'll probably remember.
As a side note. Seeing the device in lsusb and dmesg doesn't mean you have the correct kernel config to get it to work. I often use lspci and lsusb to get information so that I can go and enable it in the kernel. Just thought I'd mention that incase you didn't know. |

After I unpluged and pluged the drive back in, dmesg shows this
Code: |
usb 1-4: USB disconnect, address 5
usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
scsi2 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
usb-storage: device found at 6
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
Vendor: PLEXTOR Model: CD-R PX-W4012A Rev: 1.05
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 00
Attached scsi generic sg1 at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0, type 5
usb-storage: device scan complete
|
As for mounting to sda or sda0-8 I get
Code: |
mount: No medium found
|
So thats probably my SD card reader that I have been looking for. And the sr's just return
Code: |
mount: /dev/sr0 is not a valid block device
|
Thank you for your help and time

try enabling OHCI HCD support under USB Host Controller Drivers, also on mine I have all the ata to IDE and ATAPI to IDE bridge support enabled, but I haven't tried it without it so I can't really tell you if it is necissary or not. |
