If I have xcompmgr running and try to start a program in wine, x gets a signal11. What's really weird is that the installer will run fine with xcompmgr, but once wine runs the executable my xsession dies. I'm thinking I might be able to get wine running by tweaking the [x11drv] section of ~/.wine/config, but so far I haven't been successful. Does anyone have any hints or suggestions?

my experience is that xcompmgr doesn't work with 3D drivers. If you are trying to run 3D games through wine, it will probably not work with xcompmgr. What I did was create to xorg.conf files, xorg.conf.transparent and xorg.conf.games and simply exited my x session copied the one I wanted and started up again. Worked fine. Are these executables 3D games?

You can also make multiple serverlayouts in one xorg.conf file and the startup X with one the correct layout.
Code:
startx -- -layout wine
