|
|
For some reason after upgrading some packages, my network stopped working. I went through my /etc/conf.d/net and everything looks fine:
and when I type /etc/init.d/net.eth1 start I get:
Code: | /etc/init.d/net.eth1 start
* Bringing eth1 up... [ ok ] |
however, when I attempt to ping, I get:
Code: | # ping 192.168.0.1
connect: Network is unreachable |
and ifconfig yields only 'lo'
however, if I manually invoke dhcpcd like so:
my network comes up and works fine. What am I forgetting to do?

Perhaps there is an unterminated string in your /etc/conf.d/net or other syntax error that stops Gentoo from knowing to do dhcp. |

None that I can see. I just cleaned out all unnecessary lines in my /etc/conf.d/net, but it didn't make any difference.
[EDIT] here is my /etc/conf.d/net
Code: |
# /etc/conf.d/net: Global config file for net.* rc-scripts
# To use DHCP on eth0, simply uncomment the following line:
iface_eth1="dhcp"
# For passing custom options to dhcpcd use something like the following. This
# example reduces the timeout for retrieving an address from 60 seconds (the
# default) to 10 seconds. Note that this might be too short for some servers,
# so the default is encouraged unless you know what you're doing.
dhcpcd_eth1="-t 10 -Y -N"
|
It's so weird, typing dhcpcd eth1 on the command line works fine! |

fix: I upgraded baselayout and associated dependences to ~x86. Now my eth1 is coming up as expected upon boot. I can only assume that something else I upgraded wasn't happy with the old baselayout, but the dependency wan't documented.... Grrr... |
