I'm a new Gentoo user, having just switched over from Fedora. The install worked well, overall, and now I have a fully functional command-line environment. X also works well. My problem is that my mouse just doesn't seem to work.
I have coldplug and hotplug emerged, and the proper USB and HID support built into the kernel. It's just that nothing on the system seems to see my mouse. My USB controller is recognized at boot. "cat /dev/input/mice" does nothing.

Update: when I lsusb -v, the only device that comes up is my USB controller (nforce, if it matters).

Searching is your friend, your mouse is the same (in terms of functionality) with mx700, using the keywords : mx700 howto..... I found this:

Thanks for the quick reply. :D

I did a lot of searching before I posted, and I did see that thread. However, it seemed to be mainly about making the special buttons work, while my problem is getting any input at all. It doesn't even show up in lsusb.

However, I'm currently recompiling my kernel with a few different options, so we'll see how that works.

Update: it worked! I just greped /usr/src/linux/.config for MOUSE and then edited it to turn on all mouse-related options. Previously I had some turned off that I thought couldn't in any relate to my system. I guess I was wrong.

In page 4, someone actually sais that you can find your device by typing "cat /proc/bus/input/devices". Do so and if you cannot find anything, consider the possibility that you load the wrong modules for your USB
