|
|
I have an AMD-64 3500+ running 2.6.11-r6. Graphics provided by Nvidia 6800 (128 Mb). Two LCD monitors on the card, mirroring when in console (though working as a dual monitor in X).
I got fbsplash working but with a catch. It only works with the default "emergence" theme. After playing with it, it seems the reason emergence works is that its .cfg file has an option for a "pic256" that points to a .png file. Any theme that has that works for me. Regular themes that point to 24bit jpgs give me nothing (just a blank background).
I don't get it. I'm using vesafb (not vesafb-tng, since this is 64bit). I can view jpgs on the machine (via xv for example). Emerge sync is up to date. dmesg shows what look to be the appropriate stuff on initialization, to wit:
Kernel command line: root=/dev/sda4 video=vesafb:ywrap,mttr vga=0x318 splash=verbose,theme:emergence console=tty0
fbsplash: verbose
fbsplash: theme emergence
vesafb: framebuffer at 0xf0000000, mapped to 0xffffc20000180000, using 6144k, total 131072k
vesafb: mode is 1024x768x32, linelength=4096, pages=1
vesafb: scrolling: redraw
vesafb: Truecolor: size=8:8:8:8, shift=24:16:8:0
fbsplash: console 0 using theme 'emergence'
Any idea what is going on? Help appreciated.

I've had the same problem for months, but until now I've just lived with it. I'm on x86, however, and using vesa-tng, so the cause may be completely different.
The following is everything related to the framebuffer spit out during boot;
Code: | vesafb: ATI Technologies Inc., M3 , 01.00 (OEM: ATI MOBILE M3)
vesafb: VBE version: 2.0
vesafb: protected mode interface info at c000:6122
vesafb: pmi: set display start = c00c6190, set palette = c00c61ca
vesafb: pmi: ports = 2010 2016 2054 2038 203c 205c 2000 2004 20b0 20b2 20b4
vesafb: monitor limits: vf = 0 Hz, hf = 0 kHz, clk = 0 MHz
vesafb: mode 1792x1344-32 not found
vesafb: mode 1792x1344-32 not found
vesafb: mode 1856x1392-32 not found
vesafb: mode 1856x1392-32 not found
vesafb: mode 1920x1440-32 not found
vesafb: mode 1920x1440-32 not found
vesafb: scrolling: ywrap using protected mode interface, yres_virtual=1497
Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 175x65
fbsplash: console 0 using theme 'emergence'
fbsplash: switched splash state to 'on' on console 0
vesafb: framebuffer at 0xf8000000, mapped to 0xd8880000, using 8192k, total 8192 k
fb0: VESA VGA frame buffer device

I know you don't have the "mode ~ not found" problem, but I think it may be the "monitor limits" being all zero thats behind it, So I was wondering if you get anything similar.
Also, I can view images from the fb console using either fbi or fbv in truecolour. Could you try one of these to see if an image is rendered as an 8 or 24 bit image? _________________ "You have to invite me in" |

Well, just today (5/26) there was an update to splashutils that loaded fbsplash. fbsplash was masked for amd64, but when I unmasked it and loaded the new version, it all worked. I'm guess that fbsplash was the key, but I honestly don't know. Just glad that this fixed it!
splashutils is a 1.1.9.6, fbgrab is 1.0
Good luck |

Crap.
I had already upgraded to 1.1.9.6 before I posted, didn't help.
I guess we're not having the exact same problem after all.
Still, glad to hear yours worked out.
And crap again. _________________ "You have to invite me in" |
