|
|
During bootup I get this message:
*Checking all filesystems...
fsck.ext2: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/BOOT
/dev/BOOT:
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
/dev/hdb1 was not cleanly unmounted, check forced.
/dev/hdb1: 35/26104 files (2.9% non-contiguous), 8469/104388 blocks
* Fsck could not correct all errors, manual repair needed
Give root password for maintenance
(or type Control-D for normal startup):
If I give the root password I get a bash prompt and I don't know what to do...
hdb1 is ext2 and bootable.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

HellFace,
Well, first off you don't have a /dev/BOOT. Looks to me you that you failed to properly configure your /etc/fstab file.
If you want help with your fstab file, you need to give us a list of what disks/partitions you have ... i.e. run
and show us your current fstab file. I suspect the other errors are related to improper setup of fstab and/or improper formatting of the partitions themselves. _________________ Vim has excellent syntax highlighting for configuration files: emerge gentoo-syntax

Yes /dev/BOOT is just the dummy line in the fstab template. You are supposed to replace it with something like /dev/hda1 or whatever you want to boot from.
It should be better commented .

Yes, the fstab had a bunch of dummy settings along with my actual setting. I commented them all out and now it works fine. I'm still new at this troubleshooting Linux thing, but just doing a stage 1 install has taught me a lot. Now, if I could only get my sound to work, but that will be another thread when I give up
One more question, how do I change the subject line to say solved? |
