I've tried to install CUPS reading Gentoo doc:
# emerge cups
# emerge foomatic
# modprobe usbcore
# modprobe printer
The installation is ok, when i check hte Kernel Messages
tail -f /var/log/messages
returns me the name of the printer installed. It's ok, but when I try to print a text file
# touch test.txt
# echo "Hello World" > test.txt
# cat test.txt > /dev/lp0
I've no output on the printer.
The os versionis Gentoo 1.4rc2.
Somebody can help me? |

To which port your printer is connected, to usb or parallel port? /dev/lp0 refers to parallel port. But you load usbcore so you are using usb-printer?
Try command
# lpr test.txt |

I've tried the command
#lpr test.txt
it returns the job number but it prints nothing. |

I had the same problem. Seems like my LJ4P can't just print 1 line. Try to cat a bigger file (not just one word) through /dev/lp0 Worked for me (tried a readme). |
