Hi folks,
I'm trying to repair a badly damaged gentoo install (root cause still unknown). I am in the midst of my third kernel recompile (forgot to make mrproper - dang!).
Thing is, I note that every time I reboot, I need to retype source /etc/profile to get my assorted environment settings back. Don't recall having to do that more than once before.
Anyone care to put me on the path to enlightenment?

Oh, and please, no "emerge enlightenment" jokes ...

1. Check amd make sure you have a shell defined in the /etc/passwd file.
like so cat /etc/passwd | grep -i <user name> default is bash in Linux.
2. Delete or backup your ~/.profiles ie: .bashrc and .bash_profile or .kshrc.
3. Copy /etc/skel/.bach* files back to your ~/.
4. Log out and back in, test.
5. If that does not fix it .... ask someone else for help! |

I'll try that. Thanks. The problem's gotten moved to the back burner by some segfaults. Time to test the hardware.... |
