Heyas:
I've just gotten my Shuttle AN50R AMD64 3000 up and running... It seems to be pretty stable so far. I'm running the latest stage 3 from the amd64 livecd with 2.6.1-mm4 from a seagate 160 sata off the sii3112a.
One thing I did notice: I originally built a preemptible kernel, but when I tried to modprobe ohci_hcd, the kernel panicked at the "Connect" stage (as discovered via usb debugging). I had already loaded ehci, etc. When I rebuilt the kernel without preempt, the module installed fine and my usb mouse is recognized and functions in X.
I'm not sure where to really report the bug, but... Preempt is definitely doing bad things with my ohci stuff.
BTW, anyone got i2c running on an amd64 board? I can't even tell if this thing has sensors... |

I had problems with pre-emptive also...disabled it and problems went away...just so you know preemptive has not been officially tested on amd64...there is a note ...i dont remember where, that said if you use it with amd64 you are on your own... ...anyway i2c does work on my msi k8t800...good luck.
Also you might want to try the gentoo-dev-sources kernel...it is the official kernel for amd64 on gentoo... |

So I added the usb stuff (ehci_hcd, ohci_hcd, hid) to modules.autoload.d... and I get a very similar oops "bad RIP value" right after the boot screen shows configuring module dependencies--so I'm assuming right as one of these drivers loads.
If I boot without the autload entries and then manually modprobe them in the same order, USB comes up fine, detects my hub, etc.
hmmmm... |

Well here enlies a problem for me. I need to use pre-emptible kernel if I want to use lirc with any decent speed per either the myth mailing list or lirc mailing list (don't remember which one I found this out). Before I dwelve down this path of unforseen consequences, does anyone else around here have any other experience with pre-empt on amd64? |
