Hi.
Suddenly there are not such device files. I haven't changed the kernel these days, so I think we can discard it as the root of this trouble. Those devices are CD-ROM and CD-RW drives, on the same IDE channel.
I know the hardware is working, since I have another gentoo system in this host and I can use both devices. But the really strange thing is that if I log into my working system, mount the root partition of the one which is not working properly and see it's /dev directory, there are /dev/hdc & co.
I don't know anything about devfs but, could it be the cause of my problems? |

devfs is deprecated. udev is the new cool thing to use. Make sure you have done an etc-update recently and check out /etc/conf.d/rc. It has some settings about device file creation. The one about the tarball may be the sledgehammer you are looking for but udev might help as well. |
