Hey all,
Ive searched a bit around the forums and couldnt find the particular issue Im having. I set up my home email system using the guide on gentoo-wiki (postfix/courier-imap/etc), and it seems to work just fine when I put the system in my router's DMZ. I can send email relayed through my isps smtp server and I can receive it from various addresses not local to my system. The problem is when I firewall the system with my router (but still leaving 993 open) I cant receive email. I can still send it, but nothing comes in. I looked at the netstat results on my server, and I cant figure out what port Im supposed to leave open. Ive tried opening 993 along with 25, 143, 443, etc. What am I missing?
Thanks. _________________ _______

TCP port 25 should be all you need for your server to receive SMTP e-mail from outside places.
If a test has just failed, it might take a while for the outside mail server to re-attempt a delivery, so I would try opening port 25 and leaving it that way for an hour or so. Some mail servers will hold any new mail to a failed host until the next retry.
How do you address mail to your server? Is it based on a domain name, with MX records pointing to your external IP address? Maybe double-check to make sure your external IP address hasn't changed.
Hope that helps a bit. Cheers. |
